The firm started its activity in 1928, in Lisbon. It opened an office in Porto in 1989 and an office in Maputo (Mozambique) in 1998.

In February 2000, the firm signed with the law firm Cuatrecasas a professional integration agreement.

In March 2005, it signed with the law firm Luiz Gomes & Associados an agreement that resulted in the integration of their practices.

The team of the law firm Almeida Sampaio & Associados joined the Firm in April 2008.

In February 2009, as a result of the integration agreement with Cuatrecasas, the firm changed its name from Gonçalves Pereira, Castelo Branco, to Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira; this name was adopted by the firm in Portugal, in Spain and worldwide.

Today, the firm has 170 lawyers, 25 of which are partners, and 75 other employees, with a total of 245 people working on a permanent and exclusive basis.
